New location for community Thanksgiving

The Register-News

---- — MT. VERNON — Central Christian Church’s community Thanksgiving dinner has changed locations this year.

The community dinner brings hundreds of local residents to enjoy home cooked food and fellowship. The change in location is necessary due to an expansion project at the church.

The Mt. Vernon Primary Center’s gymnasium will be the venue for the meal.

“Same fellowship, same food just a different location,” said Randy Sells, the administrative pastor at the church.

The meal is open to the community and anyone interested is invited to attend.

“We hope that many come out and share the day. We don’t want anyone to eat alone on Thanksgiving,” Sells said.

Dinner will be held Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers will be delivering take-out meals to elderly and homebound residents starting at 10 a.m. Any person interested in a meal being delivered to their home must contact the church by Wednesday Nov. 27. Registration by name will taken for the food order.

During the meal the volunteers will be serving smoked turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, vegetables, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

Free transportation will be available from the church to the Primary Center from 11 a.m. to noon.

The church will not have its annual coat drive during the meal. Those who would donate gloves and coats for the drive are encouraged to take their donations to Angels on Assignment Angel Center.

Volunteers cook the food, provide service and fellowship and deliver meals. Volunteers are still being sought for clean up after the meal.
