Cash, jewelry taken in robbery

The Register-News

---- — MT. VERNON — An undetermined amount of cash and jewelry was taken in a Wednesday night armed robbery at a local residence.

A man reported at 9:50 p.m. that two subjects robbed him at gunpoint in the 2600 block of Cherry Street.

The two subjects were wearing masks, according to the victim.

One of the subjects was wearing a blue/gray striped hooded sweatshirt with dark pants. A clothing description of the second robber was not provided by the victim.

The robbers left the residence out the front door, presumably on foot, police logs state.

Chief of Police Chris Mendenall said the victim reported the masked men ordered the victim to get the money and jewelry from a safe, although the chief would not speculate on whether the robbers knew that a safe was inside the residence.

Mt. Vernon Police Department detectives are investigating the incident.
