MT. VERNON — A local man was arrested Monday on a charge of mob action in connection to the shooting in Mt. Vernon Sunday afternoon of Daniel Cortes-Reyes.
Arrested was Marcus L. Williams, 34, of the 900 block of Cleveland Street. He was taken into custody at 6:26 p.m. Monday.
Authorities say more arrests are expected in this case. However, a time frame for when these arrests may occur was not provided.
The shooting occurred at around 1:53 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Ninth Street and Cleveland Street.
The initial 911 call indicated a man drove away from that location in a white car and appeared to
have been shot. A second call then reported the victim as being in the 600 block of Perkins Avenue, the police logs state.
Cortes-Reyes was shot four times. He was first taken to a local hospital and was then transported to a medical facility in St. Louis.
On Monday, Cortes-Reyes was released from the hospital. He was then arrested by the St. Louis Police Department on a Jefferson County warrant for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. His bond was set at $250,000.
Mt. Vernon police were not releasing any further information on the case Tuesday afternoon.
