MT. VERNON — The 14th Annual Southern Illinois Steel Guitar Show is coming to the Holiday Inn.
The show is a weekend event starting April 24 and will continue until April 26. Doors will open each day at 10 a.m. and the last band will play at 11:30 p.m.
Cord Fitch, president of Southern Illinois Productions, which puts on the show, encourages all to come out and enjoy what the event has to offer.
“If you are a music lover this is a good place to be,” Fitch said.
Dave Flanagan, vice president of Southern Illinois Productions said he is looking forward to the entire line up this year.
“All the musicians coming this year are great and very talented,” Flanagan said.
During the show there will be several local and nationally touring musicians performing, including Terry Bethel, Bob Case, Tyler Hall, Mike Hermsmeyer, Russ Hicks, Mike Sigler, Rose Sinclair, Herb Steiner, Mike Sweeney, Joe Wright with special guests, Leona Williams and Ron Williams will be returning to the guitar show.
The house band will include Terry Smith on electric guitar, Dennis Stroughmatt on fiddle, Ric Boyer on bass, Peggy Bode on keyboards and Jeff Stoffel and Mark Fitch on drums.
Organizers are anticipating a large turnout.
“We are hoping for around 900 to be in attendance,” Flanagan said.
New to this year’s event will be a craft show held in the showroom along with the music-related vendors. Anyone who wishes to rent a booth for the event can contact Flanagan.
“We are hoping by adding crafts in the mix it will give something for everyone to enjoy,” Flanagan said.
Tickets are $12 for Thursday; $22 for Friday and $22 for Saturday. A three-day ticket, which will cover all events, will be $45. A portion of all money made during the weekend will be donated to the Jefferson County Shriners.
