MT. VERNON — Final pre-trial and trial dates have been scheduled for a Jefferson County man accused of murder.
Timothy Newell, 43, of Bonnie, was in court Wednesday for a conference hearing.
Earlier this month, the court revealed Newell was fit to stand trial following a psychiatric examination conducted by Dr. Angeline Stanislaus.
Judge Eric Dirnbeck set pre-trial dates of May 6 and July 1 with Newell’s trial scheduled to begin on July 29.
Newell is charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the beating and stabbing death of 84-year-old Rita “Betty” Newell of Bonnie. The suspect reportedly is the adopted grandson of the victim.
The vicim was found deceased in her Bonnie home on Oct. 3. She had been stabbed repeatedly, according to court documents.
If convicted, Newell could be sentenced from 20 to 60 years in prison.
