Five people killed in Hamilton County accident


MCLEANSBORO — — Five people are dead following a one-vehicle accident in Hamilton County late Saturday evening.

Illinois State Police and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department said the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Anderson School Road. A Collinsville man, 49-year-old Darrell Delong was northbound on the roadway with five passengers. Delong was the only survivor of the crash. He somehow lost control of the vehicle, rolling it several times.

Three of the passengers were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. They are: 35-year-old Tammy Delong, 42-year-old Lori Parker, both of Collinsville, and 23-year-old Diana Wright of McLeansboro. The other victims were 49-year-old Robert Parker, the only occupant reportedly wearing a seat belt, and a 16-year-old female. The driver and the juvenile were flown to an Indiana hospital where the girl died of her injuries Sunday afternoon.

Police have not determined the cause of the accident, but the road has been identified as "dangerous" by people living in and around the area.
