Rend Lake College hosting public job fair

MT. VERNON — Members of the community looking for jobs will have a chance to speak with employers from around the county at an upcoming job fair.

For the first time, the Rend Lake College Small Business Development Center job fair will be open to the public. It will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. March 21 at the Mt. Vernon Holiday Inn, said Lori Ragland, RLC director of communications and corporate education.

“Our annual job fair was on the Rend Lake College campus for some time,” Ragland said. “This year, we decided to offer a cooperative job fair. This is the first time it’s not on campus.”

More than 250 area businesses have been asked to attend the job fair, Ragland said, and the fair is open to any business looking for new employees.

The event is free for any job seeker. In addition, there will be door prizes for those who attend.

Ragland said those looking for employment should dress for success.

“Come prepared and dressed like you would for job interviews,” she said. “Have your resumes on hand. Sometimes employers will have an informal interview right there, or will schedule an interview for a later date.”
