Taste of Mt. Vernon highlights local dishes

MT. VERNON — Next month’s Downtown After Five event will spotlight local cuisine.

The sixth annual Downtown After Five — Taste of Mt. Vernon — will be held from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Tavern on 10th in downtown Mt. Vernon.

According to a press release from the Downtown Mt. Vernon Development Corporation, “the community will have the opportunity to savor the flavor of deliciously prepared food by local restaurants, caterers and specialty cooks.”

Food vendors participating in the Taste of Mt. Vernon are 9th Street Grill, GenKota Winery, King Barbacoa, Papa Z’s Ice Cream and Sandwich Shoppe, The Silver Streak, Tommy Ts Pub and Grub, Smokin Ts BBQ and What’s For Dessert.

Jeff and Ian, a local musical duo, will provide live music throughout the evening. There will be a $5 cover charge at the door, which will go to fund DMDC downtown improvement projects. Each food vendor will have a booth from which attendees can select samples.

The vendors will charge a small fee for the items and there will also be a cash bar.

Sponsors for the event are St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, U.S. Bank, People’s National Bank, Tavern on 10th,  Hughey Funeral Home, Hawkins School of Tae Kwon Do,  Jefferson County Title Company, The Insurance Store, Community First Bank, State Representative John Cavaletto, Edward Jones-Cheryl Brown, Dish on the Square and 9th Street Grill.

The annual Downtown After 5 was created to highlight the improvements to the district and increase awareness of the many features of the downtown area and the community.
