Granada hosts local violinist

---- — MT. VERNON — A free concert featuring local artist Polly Launay will be held Saturday at the Granada Center for the Performing Arts.

Launay is a violinist known for gospel and blue grass performances. The concert will be to introduce more to her music and to celebrate the release of her CD “Other Side.” The CD showcases pop/techno and hip hop jazz fusion music.

According to information provided by Launay, she performed and recorded most 99 percent of the musical tracks. During the concert Saturday, she will be accompanied by a band for most of the songs. On the CD, two professional musicians known locally performed with Launay — Paul McCormick and A. Courtney Cox.

Launay began taking violin lessons when she was eight years old, and began performing shortly thereafter. She has performed at weddings, festivals, banquets and church services as well as being part of the Paducah Symphony, A. Courtney Cox and the Rainmakers and the Southern Illinois Homecoming Choir.

Admission to the concert is free, and will begin at 8 p.m.
