MT. VERNON — —
The candidates on the April 9 Consolidated Election ballot have been finalized for city offices as Thursday was the last day to file as a write-in candidate.
Steven Casper filed Dec. 20 as a write-in candidate for city council. There are four candidates on the ballot for the two council positions — incumbent Dennis McEnaney, Donte Moore, David Morgan and incumbent Todd Piper.
Casper is the person who most associate with the Home Rule referendum that was on the November General Election ballot. Casper filed the referendum to rescind Home Rule powers in the City of Mt. Vernon. The referendum was defeated and Home Rule continues in the city.
No other write-in candidates had filed for the election as of the deadline of 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Other candidates who will appear on the April ballot are for city treasurer, Doris Stover and Mary Jo Pemberton; for city clerk, Jerilee Hopkins; and for mayor, Mary Jane Chesley.
There will be no need for a primary election in February. Those candidates who are elected to office during the Consolidated Election are expected to be sworn in to their new positions during the first city council meeting scheduled May 6, 2013.
