Mt. Vernon Fire Department responded to a vacant house fire at 5 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Bell Street. According to a MVFD official the roof of the home was fully engulfed when firemen arrived. The cause of the fire is undetermined. Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 7:30 a.m. The home is owned by Clarence Mays.
