Santa to appear at Cedarhurst

MT. VERNON — A family holiday event, Christmas with Santa will be held at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts.

The program is part of the School Performing Arts series held at the facility, however, this is the first time a performance will be held in the evening and open to families.

“Having an evening show gives families more opportunity to see the presentation,” said Sarah Sledge, director of communications. Sledge added the evening performance also allows students to attend without the added burden on schools to fund field trips.

The production of Christmas with Santa will be performed by Bright Star Theatre, a professional touring theatre company out of Asheville N.C. The group specializes in literary, curriculum and character education based classics that are entertaining and educational.

“We are excited to have Bright Star Theatre for the first time at the museum,” said Jennifer Sarver, Cedarhurst director of education.

According to information from Bright Star Theatre, Christmas with Santa is a fast-paced production packed with carols, Santa and Christmas fun. The comedy show. The storyline of the show involves two elves who misplace most of Santa’s presents. When Santa arrives, he teaches the elves that the real gift of the season are the people and friends who celebrate it with us.

“This event is a great reason to get dressed up as a family and enjoy the holiday,” Sarver said.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Mitchell Museum Performance Hall, which has been decorated for the season. Sarver said the decorations are appropriate for families to use for family photographs.

Tickets for the show are $5 per person and $4 for Cedaurhurst members. Admission for children younger than two is free. Tickets may be purchased in advance or on the night of the show.
