---- — MT. VERNON — Commercial construction in Mt. Vernon in June came to a virtual standstill.
The city issued just two commercial building permits this month, amounting to $24,000. Christopher Rural Health Corp., 2920 Veterans Memorial Drive, was given a permit on June 10 for $23,000 to renovate a parking lot; and A.P. Petties of 1003 Bell was issued a permit of $1,000 to erect a snow cone stand.
Construction in the city came in at more than $10 million in May when Drury Development Inc. received a permit for its $10 million hotel and restaurant project on Broadway and Interstate 57.
While commercial construction showed a significant decrease over the past two months, residential construction showed a significant increase.
The city issued residential permits in the amount of $40,900 in the month of May. In June, permits in the amount of $330,950 were issued.
Residential permits issued in June were:
Ed and Janet Rohlfs, 16835 E. Fairfield Road, for a storage building and storm shelter at an estimated cost of $20,000.
William Jenkins, 14476 N. McCauley Lane, for a room addition at an estimated cost of $35,000.
Terry McLean, 14178 N. County Farm Lane, for a pool at an estimated cost of $1,700; and a fence at an estimated cost of $2,500.
Shelah Korris, 2011 Lake, for a pool at an estimated cost of $750.
Michael Tracey, 920 N. Seventh St., to remodel and an addition at an estimated cost of $15,000.
Michael Meany, 25 Westwood Drive, for a pool at an estimated cost of $26,000.
Joseph and Emily Davis, 15115 N. 42nd Street, to construct a house at an estimated cost of $230,000.
Sign permits were issued to 4-Ever Gifts, 811 Broadway, at no cost; and to Martin & Bayley at 101 S. 45th St. at an estimated cost of $15,124.
Demolition permits were issued to S.I. Coalition for the Homeless at 526 S. 15th St., to Julia Miller, 624 S. 17th St., to demolish a house, and to Daniel Prible, 1700 Shawnee Ave., for an unspecified demolition.
