MT. VERNON — — MT. VERNON — Dr. Tegpal Atwal, a Mayo Clinic trained gastroenterologist, has relocated to Mt. Vernon and joined the medical staff of Crossroads Community Hospital.
Dr. Atwal will become the first gastroenterologist to be on Crossroads' medical staff and is opening the only dedicated gastroenterology office in Mt. Vernon and surrounding area.
Dr. Atwal will begin his practice at Crossroads Specialty Clinic where he will treat conditions of the stomach, pancreas and gallbladder, including acid reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, ulcers and other digestive conditions. Area of special interests include chronic pancreatitis, acute pancreatitis and advanced pancreatico-bilary endoscopy. Dr. Atwal will be performing procedures such as endoscopies, EGD, and conoloscopies.

Dr. Atwal graduated from Dayanand Medical College in Ludhiana, India. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at Lincoln Medical Center/Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York. Dr. Atwal continued his training at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., where he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology. He recently completed an additional fellowship in advanced gastroenterology and pancreatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Dr. Atwal and his wife, Dr. Kiran Khangura, have relocated and are making Mt. Vernon their home. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and gardening.
Dr. Atwal will maintain office hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. He is accepting new patients at his office at 4113 S. Water Tower in Mt. Vernon. For an appointment you may call 241-9071.
