Arrests made in connection with robbery

Three people were arrested and charged with robbing credit union

MT. VERNON — — Three people have been arrested and charged in connection with the robbery of the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union on Monday afternoon.

Police arrested Jeffrey Wilson, 41; and his wife, Jessica Wilson, 30, both of Waltonville on Tuesday morning. A third person, Amy Ramsey, 27, of Waltonville was arrested on Tuesday evening.

According to information from the Mt. Vernon Police Department, they were each charged with aggravated robbery after a search was served at the Wilson residence in Waltonville by the MVFD and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The robbery of the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union at 3100 Broadway, happened about 3 p.m. Monday afternoon. The suspects were last seen by employees running from the facility down the alley which runs parallel to Broadway. Security footage from the credit union and surrounding businesses were used to help with the identification of the suspects.

Police are still searching for the man who robbed GenFed credit union on South 42nd Street on Tuesday, an incident which is unrelated to the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union robbery, according to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Chris Mendenall.

Police received a call just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday of the GenFed robbery, and the facility was locked down and closed for about two hours on Tuesday. K-9 units were called in to help track and search for the suspect in the robbery, who is described as a tall, thin black man who was wearing a black sock hat and a yellow sweater. He was last seen running on foot from the facility heading east between GenFed and Mt. Vernon Fire Department Station 4.

According to Mendenall, the suspect did not display a weapon during the robbery. He entered the facility and asked for money, which employees gave him.

The two credit union robberies come only two weeks after a robbery of the Community First Bank facility in Woodlawn.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police are investigating the Community First Bank robbery, which happened on Nov. 27.

According to JCSO, a man displayed a firearm and asked for money and he left on foot to the north of the facility after taking about $6,000. The suspect in the bank robbery is described as between 5’5” and 5’8”, between 30 to 35 years old, with a mustache and unshaven, weighing about 160 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing dark, large-rimmed sunglasses, a camouflage coat with a hood, a red hat with a “C” on it and possibly a blue shirt. He was carrying a red drawstring bag.

Last week, JCSO was called to Community First Bank in Woodlawn after a bank employee believed the same man entered the bank, however, no one was taken into custody in regards to the call.

Anyone with information about the bank robbery are asked to call the JCSO at 244-8004. Anyone with information about the GenFed robbery are asked to call the Mt. Vernon Police Department at 242-2131.
