MT. VERNON — The sixth annual Amy Center Celebrity Waiter Dinner is set to take place this Saturday night at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon. The cash bar opens at 5:15 p.m. and the meal begins at 6 p.m.
As part of the event, several local "celebrities" sell tickets and then serve their ticket holders during the dinner. The waiter who gets the most tips receives a prize. Also, throughout the event, different activities are held to raise money and there is an auction featuring a variety of donated items.
The goal of the dinner is to raise more than $10,000, and an estimated 185 to 200 people are expected to attend. All proceeds benefit the Amy Center, a children's advocacy organization founded in 1990.
