MT. VERNON — The Jefferson County Historical Society will host a special lecture and concert on the history of Illinois folk music at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Historical Village. The event is free and open to the public.
Illinois Humanities Council Road Scholar Bucky Halker will present the lecture, which is called "Goin' Down to Cairo: Folksongs in the Land of Lincoln." Halker's talk will cover the history of this state's "rich and diverse folk music traditions," states a Historical Society news release. The lecture will focus especially on historical ballads.
