Accident closes interstate

SESER — Illinois State Police are continuing their investigation into an accident on Interstate 57 Tuesday afternoon that closed the northbound lanes near Sesser for nearly eight hours.

According to a preliminary report, five vehicles were involved in the crash, including an Illinois State Police trooper. The trooper was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There was one additional person with non-life threatening injuries.

The state trooper's SUV was fully involved in a fire following the crash, according to eyewitness reports.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. at mile post 79.5, about two miles south of Ina.
