MT. VERNON — Law enforcement officials from the Narcotics Division of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department conducted a drug sweep Wednesday, arresting several individuals on numerous drug offenses.
It was the second drug sweep in recent months, with police arresting about 20 individuals during the previous detail. The sweep follows an approximate six-month investigation of drug activity in the city and county, according to Ron Almaroad, detective for the Mt. Vernon Police Department.
Local officials were attempting to serve approximately 22 warrants on Wednesday. Ten of the 22 offenders were arrested, and three of the remaining offenders are believed to be in Marion County, according to police.
Two people were served warrants at the Jefferson County Justice Center since they were already incarcerated on other charges. Dustin Mannen, 28, Mt. Vernon, was served a warrant on charges of possession of cannabis and possession of drug equipment; and Julian Payne, 27, Mt. Vernon, was arrested on new charges of unlawful delivery of methamphetamine.
Other individuals arrested during the drug sweep include:
n Eldon Millman, 33, of the 800 block of Maple Street, on charges of unlawful delivery of cannabis and possession of drug equipment.
n Fernandez Jones, 36, of the 2000 block of Broadway, on a charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, heroin.
n Katina Harbor, 39, of the 600 block of South 19th Street, on a charge of unlawful delivery of prescription medications.
Names of the remaining five suspects arrested was not immediately available. In the two sweeps, 45 warrants have been issued.
