Waltonville Community Church

Howard Community Chapel

Sunday mornings are lively and exciting at Howard Community Chapel.

An all-Bible Sunday school begins promptly at 10 a.m. on Oct. 27. There is a class for every age. Teachers include Curt Anselment for senior adults, Linda Myers for Pairs and Spares, Carolyn Lane for middlers, and Billy and Rebekah Bell for beginners. Sam Lane is superintendent.

At 10:45 a.m., everyone is back in the auditorium. The boys and girls will be singing, playing music in the booster band, hearing an object lesson given by Linda Myers and collecting the penny march.

Everyone who has had a birthday or anniversary in the last week will be acknowledged.

Around 11 a.m., morning worship begins. The service will feature congregational and special singing, along with special prayer led by Larry Rainwater. Dennis and Linda Myers will be featured on a duet. Pastor Myers will be preaching a message titled, “A Sinner’s Friend.” Scripture text will be Luke 15:2. The service will end with an invitation hymn and altar call.

The 6 p.m. evening Pentecostal worship features congregational singing from hymnal, prayer as well as prayer for the sick, special singing, music, testimonies and a timely anointed message by Pastor Myers.

Musicians include Linda Myers, Paul Thomason, Rachel Thomason, Sam Lane, Mikie McClanahan, Carroll Thomas, Rebekah Bell and Pastor Myers.

Sound engineers are Billy Bell and Randy Roy.

Ushers are Paul Hicks and Mike McClanahan.

Midweek services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Friday, Nov. 29, the Fifth Fellowship meeting will be held with the Rev. Billy Carter singing and preaching. More information will come.

Southwest Christian Church

Southwest’s mission is to save lives by passionately choosing Jesus Christ as the only true standard for living.

Otterbein United Methodist Church

Otterbein United Methodist Church in Bluford gathers for Sunday school at 10 a.m., followed by worship at 10:45 a.m.

Ann Hinds will give the message titled, “A Life Worth Living,” based on 2 Timothy 4:6-8 and 16-18

Volunteer servants include pianist Lisa Meador and greeter Fred Reeker, children’s sermon, Idella Robertson and children’s church, Shirley Reeker.

Wednesday evening children’s choir starts with a meal at 6 p.m. and adult Bible Study starts at 7 p.m.

Otterbein United Methodist Church will hold a Trunk or Treat on Halloween night from 7 to 9 p.m. We will also have hot chocolate and snacks available. Stop by so we can see all the neat costumes!

Boyd Christian Church

Boyd Christian Church would like to invite you to join us for a new Sunday school class we are now having, on the book of Revelation and taught by our minister, Jason Poznich. Sunday school meets at 9 a.m. and we would love to see you there!

Also join us for morning worship at 10 a.m. as Jason will be bringing the message on Revelation. The title is, “Overcome with Obedience” from Revelation 2:18-29.

During worship service, there are several options for kids; first through fifth grades can join in Clubhouse, three year olds through kindergarten age can go to the preschool room and two year olds and younger can go to the nursery

We are having a Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot. If you would like to bring your vehicle, please sign up at the welcome center.. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the gym.

Wesley United Methodist Church

Wesley United Methodist Church, located at 1601 Salem Rd., Mt. Vernon, will be worshipping this Sunday, Oct. 27, at 10:30 a.m.

We also have fellowship and breakfast prior to worship at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday.

Our greeters this Sunday will be Janet Clark and Randy Barksdale. Children’s church will be lead by Brooke Lacey.

Pastor Phil Poe will be sharing the message, “Who is the Holy Spirit?” based on John 14:15-21 and 16:7-15.

He will also be sharing a message for the children about “Things We Can’t See” based on John 20:20.

West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church

Pastor Brad will be bringing the message this week for the 10:30 a.m. service at the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church.

The church is located on the corner of 42nd Street and Broadway in Mt. Vernon.

The message this week will be “Exactly As God Commanded,” with the text taken from Genesis 6:5-22.

The scripture reader will be Jacqueline Withrow and Cass Upchurch will be leading the church in prayer.

Gayle Shelton will be the worship host. Pastor Brad will be leading the children’s sermon. Wendell Bethard and Roger Jacobs will be parking lot greeters and Sandra Smith and Nona Elliott will be the door greeters. Wes Plummer and Sam Totten will be in the prayer room. We will be having Children’s church and a nursery is provided.

The West Salem Trinity Praise Team will be leading the time of worship and the Praise Choir will be bringing the offertory special music under the direction of Pastor Brad.

The Sunday morning time will begin with prayer at 7:30 a.m. in the Worship Center followed by a time of fellowship in the Christian Activity Center at 8:45 a.m. Mike and Peggy Tatlock are the fellowship hosts.

At 9:30 a.m. we will be having Sunday School for all ages, Peggy Tatlock is Sunday School Superintendent and Wendy Denzler is the Youth and Children’s Coordinator.

The Youth will be doing Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. Be looking for them at your door.

The Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Class 2 will be meeting from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church under the leadership of Cass Upchurch.

The KIDS Club Family Meal will be at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday followed by KIDS Club, Jr. Hi and Sr. Hi youth. The adults will be sharing in the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Class 1 at 5:30 p.m. led by Mike and Peggy Tatlock. Maurice Smith will be leading a Bible Study on Galatians at 6:30 p.m. Praise Choir will practice at 7:35 p.m. and Praise Team will practice at 8:35 p.m.

The West Salem Trinity Trunk-or-Treat will be on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.

St. Mary Catholic Church

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women will host its annual holiday bazaar and luncheon on Nov. 7.

The craft and bake sale will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and lunch will begin serving at 11 a.m. with homemade chili or vegetable soup, hot dog, dessert and drink. The cost is $7 for adults with children $4 for choice of chili, soup or hot dog, dessert and drink. Carryouts are available by calling 244-1559, ext 232.
