MT. VERNON — Four people were injured in a two-car accident shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday on Illinois Highway 142 at Woodland Lane.
According to a sheriff’s department report, an eastbound vehicle driven by David J. King, 41, of the 8500 block of North Reardon Lane, struck a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Kayla Sherman. Sherman pulled out from Woodland Drive and was heading westbound. Witnesses reported King was operating his vehicle without headlights.
King was treated and released at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. A passenger in the King vehicle, 43-year-old Kendra Loman, was first taken to Good Sam and then airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital.
Sherman and a passenger in her vehicle, 47-year-old Rosemary Bishop, were taken to the hospital by Litton’s Ambulance Service.
Following his release from the hospital, King was taken into custody for aggravated driving under the influence in a school zone, and driving under the influence.
In addition to the sheriff’s office, Jefferson Fire Protection District, Litton’s, and Mt. Vernon Police responded to the accident.
The accident remains under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s department.
