INA — A conference on fracking will be held at Rend Lake College on July 30.
The event is organized by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Southeastern Illinois College, Illinois Eastern Community Colleges and Rend Lake College. The event will feature a variety of speakers from State Rep. John Bradley to local officials and business people, according to information from the college.
The conference is geared toward local elected officials and economic developers. Public attendance is welcome as long as registration is completed.
Attendance is limited to 300 people and those interested in attending should RSVP the college no later than Monday. Open spaces will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
The conference will be held at the RLC Theater at 8 a.m. on July 30, with registration from 8 to 8:30 a.m. A welcome by RLC President Terry Wilkerson and DCEO Director Adam Pollett will be at 8:30 a.m. Bradley will speak at 8:45, followed by presentations from Mary Morissey-Kochanny of the Attorney General’s office, Mitchell Cohen of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Robert Bauer of the U.S. Geological Survey.
After a break, Brad Richards of the Illinois Oil and Gas Association and Tony Stewart of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association will give industry perspectives and Mary Ellen Bechtel of the Jefferson County Development Corporation will speak on economic development impacts.
After lunch, presentations will be on fracking impacts to local governments and communities. Impacts to roads, infrastructure, housing and education will be discussed by Adam Feig of the University of Illinois Extension service; Brian Ray, White County engineer; Grayville Mayor Joe Bisch; Dan Sulsberger of Flora Economic Development; Brad Miller of the Hamilton County Board and Bob Oglesby of the Saline County Board.
A wrap-up of the conference will be done by David Yepsen of the Paul Simon Institute.
