Two charged in home invasion

OPDYKE — Two of three suspects in a reported home invasion have been arrested by county officials.

Seth M. Felty, 18, of Elm Circle, and Derrick A. Hunter, 20, of the 600 block of South 20th Street, were arrested Thursday afternoon by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

City and county police converged on a van at the intersection of Illinois Highway 142 and South 10th Street about an hour after the reported 2:13 p.m. incident in the 8300 block of Lighthouse Lane near Opdyke.

Felty, Hunter and another unidentified subject were identified by a male subject at the residence who told authorities the men stole his X-Box and attempted to steal a television.

Initial reports indicated the victim stated one of the suspects was armed with a .45 caliber handgun, although later reports stated the victim did not see a gun, but one of the suspects said he had a gun.

Sheriff Roger Mulch said his department is continuing their investigation, and indicated it has “not been determined” if any of the suspects were armed.

“We have enough to detain the subjects, but we’re still investigating to see what happened,” Mulch said.

Police logs stated the suspects entered the house twice — the first time in masks — and the second time without masks. The victim recognized one of the suspects — Hunter — as being the subject whom the victim purchased the X-box from, and indicated the suspect’s motive was to “come back and get it.”

Police logs indicate that EMS was requested at the Opdyke residence, although there was no mention of anyone being transported via ambulance to a medical facility.
