Jefferson Fire Protection District responded to a report of a chemical fire at 17744 E. Illinois Highway 15, near Two Mile Creek Lane, just before 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. According to Chief Robert Beal, the fire was under control at about 10:07 a.m. The main chemical involved in the fire was ammonia, which was accidentally mixed with another common chemical and started smoking before catching fire. “It caught quickly and they were great about calling us,” Beal said. “We got everything out of the building and there was no damage and other contents weren’t involved.”
