MT. VERNON — On the third year the Downtown Mt. Vernon Development Corporation Cruise-In has been a part of Fall Fest, it is now cementing the partnership.
"This year, instead of us approaching businesses and people to sponsor just the Cruise-In, sponsors donate for the Fall Fest and we still receive the benefit," explained DMDC Executive Director Cyndy Mitchell. "In the past, we would get our sponsors, and they would get their sponsors and there was a lot of crossover. We are trying to eliminate having people approached by several groups that are part of Fall Fest. This is more efficient and we will still get the benefits."
Mitchell said business and organizations can still sponsor the trophy of their choice for the car show, but will need to specify the request.
"It may be a little different now, but you can still sponsor as you always have if you wish," Mitchell said. "The Fall Fest as a whole is very important to our downtown, so this works well for all of us."
The Cruise-In has been an event of the DMDC since 2002, when it started with 40 vehicles. During the last three years, as part of Fall Fest, the event has boasted more than 150 entries for show.
"It's a big event," Mitchell said. "The main focus of the cruise-in has been to attract people downtown to see what is happening in the area, to make people aware of what we have downtown. The Fall Fest does the same thing, and being a part of it continues our mission. The downtown is a viable and active area."
The Cruise-In @ Fall Fest will be held Saturday, Oct. 18 on Ninth Street.
