MT. VERNON — A pre-trial conference has been set for August for Samuel Kehrer.
Kehrer, 47, of Mt. Vernon, is facing three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of 37-year-old Eric Houser.
Kehrer is accused of stabbing Houser in the chest on Feb. 18 at the Mt. Vernon Sportsman’s Club during an altercation. Kehrer has pleaded innocent of the charges.
Kehrer is being held at the Jefferson County Justice Center on $3 million bond. His attorney, James Gomric of Belleville, petitioned the court on behalf of Kehrer in March for a bond reduction to $300,000, which was denied.
Last month, an initial trial date in the case was vacated, and discovery for the prosecution and defense is ongoing.
According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Doug Hoffman, testing of evidence is ongoing and being processed by the Illinois State Police, as reported in May.
“The parties are doing the work that needs to be done in leading up to a trial,” Hoffman said.
The delays are by agreement on both sides of the aisle, so the days do not count toward the 120 day speedy trial count.
A pre-trial conference has been set in the case for 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 12. No trial date has been set.
