BLUFORD — What would a summer be without classic cars and ice cream?
Bluford Ruritan Club and the Webber Fire Protection District will co-host its sixth annual Ice Cream Social and car cruise-in Saturday.
Registration for the car show begins at 2 p.m. and food items, including several flavors of homemade ice cream, will be available about 3 p.m. Karaoke singing begins at 4 p.m.
Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 cars that register.
The event will be held near the Ruritan Club building, just north of Bluford Grade School.
“This is just too big of an event for one organization. That’s why we joined up with the fire department,” said Chuck Pepple, president of the Bluford Ruritan Club. Proceeds from the fundraiser are split between the two organizations.
“Since we’re splitting the proceeds, it allows the fire department to buy additional equipment and in our case, donate back to the community,” Pepple said.
Raffle tickets will be sold at the event for some of the prizes to be awarded. However, this year, the groups are also conducting an auction for some of the bigger ticket items, including Cardinals and Southern Illinois Miners tickets, gift cards from the Metro-East area and more.
“We’ve got a lot of nice things that will be included in the auction,” Pepple promised. “And we still have a lot of nice raffle items too.”
The auction begins at 6 p.m.
One of the raffles will include a .22 caliber pistol with a laser sight.
Pepple said 60 gallons of ice cream will be prepared, including a variety of flavors, plus a couple of sugar free flavors.
“We want people to bring their lawn chairs, look at the cars and enjoy the food and entertainment,” Pepple said.
