MT. VERNON — Mark D. Hassakis, attorney and senior partner of the law firm of Hassakis & Hassakis, P.C. in Mt. Vernon, received an award from the Juvenile Justice Initiative, Illinois Association of Juvenile Justice Councils, Illinois Collaboration on Youth, Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission, Illinois Juvenile Justice Leadership Council and the Illinois Models for Change, all conveners for their Re-Connecting the Pathways Conference held last month in Springfield.
The award is in recognition of Hassakis’ efforts and focus on juvenile justice issues in improving the administration of justice, enhancing public safety and improving outcomes for young people and communities in Illinois. Award winners in addition to Hassakis were: Jim Covington of the Illinois State Bar Association who also won in the category “Adolescent Development and Trauma-Informed Practice” for his legislative efforts on behalf of youth; Mariame Kaba of Project NIA won the “Data and Evidence-driven System Responses” award; Tasha Wilkerson of Youth Outreach Services won the “Effective Alternatives to Detention and Incarceration Award; and Mikva Challenge won the “Youth and Family Engagement and Law Enforcement/Youth/Community Partnerships” group category.
Hassakis currently serves as a board member on the Juvenile Justice Initiative, Department of Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, Juvenile Justice Leadership Council and the Illinois State Bar Association Child Law Section Council. Hassakis is a trial attorney who represents injured victims in Southern Illinois and throughout Illinois. He regularly sees clients in Mt. Vernon, Belleville, Marion, Effingham, Mt. Carmel, Olney, Vandalia and Chicago.
