Mt. Vernon will soon acquire another industry, the Precision Engineering Co., of Los Angeles, which will establish a Midwestern branch in this city. Ernest V. Berry is head of the new firm. Al Berg, manager of a telephone company, was presented an award for his part in saving the lives of a young man and woman involved in an accident north of Dix last Sept. 6.

Joseph A. McGuckin has been named Illinois Bell Telephone manager of the Mt. Vernon area.

Roy Van Horn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Van Horn of 403 Main St., has accepted a teaching position in Dixon.

Mt. Vernon Florist Al Easton is one of the 14 finalists in the Florist of the Year competition sponsored by the Florist’s Transworld Delivery association. He has been named the Region I florist of the year.

M. Joan McConnaughhay will observe 30 years service with Illinois Bell in Mt. Vernon July 16. A Jefferson County native, she began her career here in 1949 as an operator.

Stan Partridge, Mt. Vernon Township supervisor, has been appointed to the State Advisory committee on General Assistance by Public Aid Director Gregory L. Coler.
