MT. VERNON — Another major retailer has opened its doors at the newly-renovated Times Square Mall.
Big Lots opened the doors to its new 32,022 square foot store on Thursday. A grand opening is scheduled on Friday, July 25.
“We’ve been in the community a long time. The previous location was successful, but we’re excited with a new building in the center of town in an extremely nice center that’s exposed to the main drag,” said Big Lots District Manager Don Conoyer.
“We’re excited about serving the community in a good location and we think we can get the customers in and out in a reasonable amount of time. We hope the customers like the
new store as well as we like being there,” he added.
Big Lots joins the recent opening of Hobby Lobby to Times Square Mall, along with Rue 21. Ross Dress for Less will also become a new mall tenant in the near future.
Big Lots has moved most of its merchandise from its former Mt. Vernon location on Prairie Avenue. The new location is actually smaller in space — going from about 60,000 square feet to 32,000 square feet — although Conoyer said everything that was in the former location will be available in the new location.
“As Times Square Mall’s newest addition, Big Lots will offer real value and convenience to the community,” stated Bruce Boruszak, executive vice president at Pine Tree Commercial Realty. “They join several other fantastic retailers in what has become quite and exciting time of rejuvenation for Times Square Mall.”
Pine Tree Commercial and Sansone Group own the 269,328 square foot shopping center in partnership with Elgin-based Wanxiang America Real Estate Group.
“We are very excited and pleased to bring new national retail to the city. We are committed to our partnership with the city to ensure strong economic growth and job creation,” added Jim Sansone of Sansone Group.
