MT. VERNON — —
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at Veterans Memorial Park Friday, Dec. 7 to share stories, s’mores and hot chocolate with the children of Mt. Vernon.
Mt. Vernon Recreation Coordinator Wes Plummer said there will also be a bonfire and Christmas caroling during the evening.
“They are just going to be paying a visit and reading some stories to the kids,” he said. “It’s a good chance for the kids to get up close and visit with Santa and maybe take some pictures or sit in his lap.”
S’mores Stories with Santa will be held from 6 p.m. and end around 7:30 p.m., near the playground in Veterans Park as part of the Family Adventure Series. There will be Christmas lights up to lead the way to the area where the story time will take place. The free event will feature Santa telling stories at half hour intervals, so those who visit can make it short or stay the entire time. A campfire will be lit and Plummer said families are encouraged to dress warmly for the event.
He said if the weather is really poor, then the event will be moved inside the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building.
“It’s not an event that you have to stay at the whole time,” he said.
