Snowfall and wind chill create dangerous conditions

Moderate warm-up predicted for Wednesday

MT. VERNON — — The Mt. Vernon area received roughly 7 to 12 inches of snowfall Sunday, and today's temperatures will only reach a high of -1 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky.

Severe wind chill levels today could push the temperature to as low as -24. Emergency officials warn the public to not spend much, if any, time outside as frostbite could begin to set in in as little as 15 minutes on skin that is not covered.

Road conditions are also treacherous since salt and de-icing agents are not as effective in these kind of conditions.

A moderate warm-up is expected to begin on Wednesday.

More information will be posted on this site later today regarding weather conditions.
