The 2013 Ash Bash will be held Aug. 17 on the property of Joe and Lori Ilbery on Brownsville Road here in the King City.
The annual event is held to honor the memory of Ashton Ilbery, who passed away in 2011.Ashton's mother, Lori, said that her daughter was a true music fan, and that led to the formation of The Ash Bash."Ashton loved music fests," said Ilbery. "That was something that she really enjoyed doing. She just loved music in general, all types of music," said Ilbery. "We wanted to think of something that we could do in her honor. We decided that if we could get some collaboration of musicians, and her friends and family, we could have some sort of annual event, to honor her memory, as well as help others."The music line-up so far will include local act Sacred Edge. John Metcalf and Sharon Smith of Moonbeam Lane will also perform. Ilbery said there will be an open-mic period as well, to allow other musicians to entertain the crowd.Although there is no admission charge, donations will be accepted. There will also be a 50-50 drawing during the evening.Event-themed T-shirts will be sold, with 100 percent of the profit going to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society of St. Louis."They do research, and they help families that may not have insurance," Ilbery said. "They give special grants to help with travel, gasoline and prescriptions. They helped us, and we wanted to do something in Ashton's name to help them so that they could help others."Ash Bash will get underway at 4 p.m. Families are welcome and the bash will be kid-friendly from 4 to 9 p.m.The Ash Bash also has a Facebook page, entitled "Remembering Ashton" and everyone is invited to take a look.Come out and show your support.Don't forget to check out www.musicallyspeaking.mvn.net.Don't drink and drive! or text and drive! The Illinois State Police are counting on it.
