Casey construction keeping on schedule

Despite being a few days behind, the Aug. 15 completion date remains

MT. VERNON — — Despite the winter weather uncertainties, construction on the Zadok Casey Middle School is moving forward and keeping on schedule.

District 80 Superintendent Mike Green said he has been meeting with both FGM Architects and Holland Construction twice a month to hear updates on the construction.

“Overall the project is going well,” Green said. “We are trying to get some things done in the case of colder winter weather.”

Green said the construction is a few days behind, but the completion date — Aug. 15 — remains the same.

He also said there have been meetings to make sure the colors of the school are correct in the classrooms and the ceilings, among other projects.

“We are just working on the details,” he said.

He said there have been no problems with the construction site.

“No one is bothering the project,” he said. “We have not had any problems at all from the students or anyone else.”

When the construction first began, the students, parents and bus pick-up and drop-offs had to undergo some changes. Since the area where parents would normally drop off their children in the morning had been fenced off for construction purposes, the school had to adjust.

Parents have been asked to park across the street from the school and their children have been using the bridge, which crosses over Broadway St., to meet their parents.

The buses have also been loading and unloading off 19th Street, and the parking lot to the middle school where parents may normally wait for their children is closed off to the public after 3 p.m.

“Students and parents and the bus company have adjusted,” Green said. “Everyone is recognizing the progress that is going on. We are hoping for a good winter, weather wise, so we can stay on schedule.”
