The driver of a horse and buggy and of a Jeep Grand Cherokee escaped injury Saturday evening when the buggy pulled out in front of the vehicle.
According to accident reports from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, a juvenile was driving the buggy and stopped at the intersection of Eighth Street and Illinois Highway 142 at about 6 p.m. Saturday then pulled onto the highway in front of a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Jeep, being driven by Melinda J. Ilbery of McLeansboro, struck the buggy.
Accident reports indicate the horse and buggy are insured by Amish Insurance Company. The report states the driver of the buggy stated he did not see the Jeep before he was struck. According to witnesses at the scene, the buggy did not have a light, and the horse had to be dispatched.
