Sidney S. Hirons, county superintendent of schools, announced today that a total of 300 eighth-grade pupils will receive diplomas tonight and end May 1.

Two hundred firemen from 35 cities will be in Mt. Vernon tomorrow and will watch a demonstration of this community’s new snorkel fire truck.

Jim McDowell was elected president of the District 80 City Grade School Board last night.

The Mt. Vernon City Council on Monday approved the sale of more than $1 million in bonds to make up the cost overrun on the Trunkline Sewer Project.

Law enforcement authorities were searching this morning for a Mt. Vernon man charged in the shooting death of Adonis Jackson, 20, of Mt. Vernon.
