MT. VERNON — — Mt. Vernon Township High School is considering a tax levy increase of 7.912 percent for fiscal year 2013-2014.
The MVTHS Board of Education's Finance Committee discussed the possible levy hike at a meeting Tuesday afternoon. Tax caps prevent districts from collecting more than a 5 percent increase, but often districts ask for more revenue than they will likely receive.
Superintendent Michael Smith said a number of factors are considered when developing a levy amount, including the prior year's verified tax values, the consumer price index and others. The MVTHS Board will likely vote on the levy hike next week.
