MT. VERNON — Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 class of the Senior Saints Hall of Fame.
"The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the City of Mt. Vernon, Jefferson County Board and Senior Saints Committee, will honor residents who have demonstrated community service including civic activities, love of country, the ability to embrace change and for action taken in the face of adversity as senior saints," nomination information states. "The Senior Saints Hall of Fame gives Jefferson County a chance to recognize senior citizens of our community."
The Senior Saints Hall of Fame is entering its 15th year of honoring members of the community who have spent their lives making it a better place for peers and future generations.
In order to be honored as a Senior Saint, nominees must have been 65 years or older on Jan.1, 2013; must have been living on Jan. 1, 2013; and must be a resident of Jefferson County. Current paid political office holders are not eligible for nomination.
All applications should address how the nominee has demonstrated community service, how they show their love of country and/or community, how they exemplify the ability to embrace change and action taken in response to adversity — their own or others.
Three letters of recommendation of the nomination must be completed and submitted with the Senior Saints Hall of Fame nomination forms.
Application forms are available at the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, 200 Potomac Blvd., located in the Municipal West Building. Applications are also available online at www.southernillinois.com. The deadline for nominations to be returned to the Chamber office is Aug. 16.
Of the nominations received,, about 12 honorees will be chosen. Those chosen to be inducted into the hall of fame will be honored at a dinner on Oct. 5, at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon.
