Bank robbed in Dahlgren

McLEANSBORO — Police were still searching late Thursday afternoon for a man who robbed the Peoples National Bank branch in Dahlgren.

The man, described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s, displayed a black semiautomatic handgun during the robbery, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department reported.

The robbery took place about 11:19 a.m. Thursday.

The suspect, described as thinly built and about 6-feet-1 to 6-feet-3 inches tall, was wearing a gray sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, a ski hat with ear flaps, light-colored cloth gloves and light-colored tennis shoes with dark shoelaces, the sheriff's department news release said.

He was carrying a black backpack and was last seen running on foot southwest from the bank.

Tom Dolson, Peoples Bank's chief executive officer, said Thursday afternoon that the bank was still trying to determine how much was taken in the robbery.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department at 643-2511 or the Illinois State Police at 542-2171.
