---- — WOODLAWN — Two people were killed in a truck-motorcycle accident Friday night at the intersection of Illinois 15 and Woodlawn Road.

According to a news release, the sheriff’s department received a call of an accident at 9:18 p.m.

Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Marks said the two occupants of the motorcycle — 52-year-old Billy Philpot of Vandalia and 49-year-old Debra Graham of Mt. Vernon — were killed.

The motorcycle was westbound on Illinois 15 and was struck by a pickup driven by Neal Dailey, 41, of Woodlawn. Dailey’s truck was eastbound on Illinois 15 and was attempting to turn into the Shell service station, in front of the motorcycle.

Dailey was first taken to Crossroads Community Hospital and then airlifted to a St. Louis hospital.

Marks said the victims were not wearing helmets and were pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the motorcycle.

The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department, Marks, and Illinois State Police.

The accident was the second within a week involving a cyclist. An accident near the Jefferson-Marion counties line on Wednesday night resulted in major injuries to a Centralia man.

Donald G. Cullum, 47, was seriously injured when he lost control on his cycle on Richview Road. Cullum was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia and then transferred to a St. Louis hospital, according to police reports.

Cullum was ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol.
