MT. VERNON — Family Day at Cedarhurst will be a curious event.
Curiosity Day at Cedarhurst will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 26, with Curious George and The Man With the Yellow Hat.
“This will be the fourth year we’ve done the Family Day partnership,” said Sarah Sledge, director of communications at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts. “Every year the crowd gets even larger. We average between 500 and 700 people.”
The event is a partnership with WSIU
Public Broadcasting, which provides family programming which includes Curious George. Last year, area youth were able to enter the Neighborhood of Make Believe.
Some of the events planned for families include outdoor painting, kite flying, music and sound sculpture, watching Curious George videos, planting seeds, books and games and a children’s art exhibit.
The event will be held, rain or shine, Sledge said.
“We’ve been fortunate to have beautiful weather for the Family Day,” Sledge said. “But in case of bad weather, we’ll move everything inside.”
In addition to Cedarhurst staff, WSIU has coordinated to have student volunteers available at the event.
“WSIU has done a great job of working with Jennifer Sarver, our director of education, to put together activities for the day,” Sledge said. “It will be all hands on deck to help families get around the sculpture park and facility. ... We hope to see lots of kites flying and families having a great time.”
