Nine people sent to prison

---- — MT. VERNON — Nine individuals were recently sentenced to prison in Jefferson County as a result of pleading guilty to various offenses.

State’s Attorney Doug Hoffman has released the following information on cases terminated with prison pleas.

n George A. Fly, 57, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school. He was sentenced to serve seven years in the Department of Corrections, followed by three years of mandatory supervised release. On April 25, Fly sold a quantity of a substance containing cocaine to a confidential source of the MVPD-JCSO Narcotics Division. The delivery took place near Casey Middle School.

n Shane A. Hicks, 25, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church. He was sentenced to four years in prison, followed by two years of mandatory supervised release. On May 30, Hicks sold a quantity of heroin to a confidential source of the MVPD-JCSO Narcotics Division. The delivery took place near a Mt. Vernon church.

n Demetrius J. Hernandez, 20, St. Louis, pleaded guilty to residential burglary. He was sentenced to six years in prison, followed by two years of parole. On Dec. 28, Hernandez and other individuals entered a home on Herbert Street in Mt. Vernon and removed various items. The break-in was promptly reported by neighbors and Hernandez was arrested shortly thereafter by Mt. Vernon Police.

n Ricky L. Webb, 45, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to domestic battery. He was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by four years of parole. On Jan. 7, 2010, Webb struck a family member multiple times in the face causing injury. Webb had a prior conviction for domestic battery.

n Charles L. Whipple, 43, Woodlawn, pleaded guilty to domestic battery. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by four years of mandatory supervised release. On March 9, Whipple struck a family member in the face. He was previously convicted of aggravated battery in Jefferson County.

n Darrell E. Henry, 45, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to domestic battery. He was sentenced to one year in prison, followed by four years of parole. On Dec. 1, Henry repeatedly punched a female victim in the face. He had a prior conviction for domestic battery.

n Trenton T. Page, 35, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft. He was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by one year of parole. On Dec. 10, Page stole electronic equipment from two victims in Mt. Vernon. He has a prior conviction for misdemeanor theft.

n Julian Payne, 28, Benton, pleaded guilty to retail theft. He was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by one year of parole. On Sept. 17, Payne stole merchandise from Kohl’s in Mt. Vernon and has a prior theft conviction.

n Quavarus G. Jackson, 21, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to retail theft. He was sentenced to one year in prison, followed by one year of parole. On March 8, Jackson stole merchandise from K-mart in Mt. Vernon. He was arrested by Mt. Vernon Police. His sentence will run concurrent with a sentence out of St. Clair County on theft-related charges.
