JCHS preview party set

MT. VERNON —The Jefferson County Historical Society will host its first Exhibits Preview Party on Thursday at the Historical Village’s museum.

During the event the public is encouraged to come preview the exhibits from 4 to 6 p.m.

“We decided to put together the preview because we wanted to make our opening day special,” said Jamie Wheeler, community relations director for the Historical Society. “We are trying something a little different to generate some interest for the village.”

Wheeler said there are two new exhibits this year, the Civil War Parlor and the 1950s Office Exhibit.

Exhibits that can be visited during the event include the railroad display, the school exhibit, the 1950s office display, the service station exhibit, the Civil War parlor display and an

exhibit on the Mt.Vernon’s Emmerson Hotel.

“The Preview Party is an excellent opportunity for people to socialize in a relaxed environment while getting a sneak peak at the Village’s new exhibits for the year, “ Wheeler said.

Members of the Historical Society will be on hand to answer questions. There will be light refreshmentsfor all in attendance.

The Preview Party officially kicks off the season at the museum and village, with opening day on Saturday. Opening day activities will include musical performances by singer/songwriter Chris Vallillo. He has performed at the village in the past and is an audience favorite.
