MT. VERNON — Crossroads Community hospital will host the annual American Cancer Society Survivor Dinner on June 2.
The Relay for Life of Jefferson County planning committee and teams will be serving survivors and guests. The free dinner will honor cancer survivors and one guest, according to information from Crossroads Community Hospital. Although invitations are sent to survivors who have registered for the event in previous years, any survivor who would like to attend is asked to contact Stacy Hulbert at 315-4232 as soon as possible. The hospital nutrition department is preparing a sit-down dinner for more than 100 expected guests, according to Debi Richardson, director of marketing and public relations at Crossroads Community Hospital.
“When we heard the American Cancer Society needed a sponsor and venue to host the annual survivor dinner, we were
excited to take the opportunity to become involved,” said Finney Mathew, CEO of Crossroads. “We understand that this dinner is important to the men and women who have fought courageous battles with this disease — and also to their guests who have stood by them through the fight.”
All survivors are also invited — along with community members — to the Relay for Life of Jefferson County, which will be held from 6 p.m. June 13 to 6 a.m. June 14 at the Mt. Vernon Township High School track and football field. The event will be kicked off with a special Survivors Lap, to honor those who have defeated cancer. Survivors will gather to walk the opening lap, a symbol of victory and hope, while the event participants surround the track and cheer them on.
