MT. VERNON — A theme for this year’s Mt. Vernon Fall Fest has been selected.
“Toons, tunes and balloons” is the theme, as this year’s festival on Oct. 17 through 19 will feature your favorite cartoon characters, jammin’ music tunes and hot air balloons, along with new events like the Wheels to Wellness bicycle ride, as well as the old favorites like the free Kids Zone.
“We were sitting around talking and I threw that one (theme) out and it stuck,” said Bonnie Jerdon, executive director of the Mt. Vernon Visitors and Convention Bureau.
“We’ve had cartoon characters as our parade theme, we always have marching bands and last year we added the balloon festival event and they all together with that theme,” she continued.
The parade will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18. That’s an hour later than the usual starting time.
“The group wanted to do that to coincide with the concerts so people would be downtown at the start of the main act on the main stage. As soon as the parade is over, they can stick around for the entertainment that will be impressive,” Jerdon said.
The parade route will be changed for this year’s festival, Jerdon said, as a result of the Noon Rotary Club organizing the parade entries.
Jerdon said committee officials also want to make the parade route longer due to the large number of entries expected.
The parade route will be announced at a later date.
The entertainment lineup for Saturday has not been confirmed. Sunday’s entertainment will follow the contemporary Christian music from last year.
This year’s Morning Rises tour features Aaron Shust, Mikeschair, Nathan Tasker and Lauren Daigle, information states.
Fall Fest committee members are: Jerdon, Todd Piper, Bob Feltmeier, Rex Cusamano and Rachel Hunsell.
