MT. VERNON — —
The 92nd annual Jefferson County Farm Bureau meeting was held Thursday night, with one of the largest crowds in attendance. The meeting was held to discuss upcoming business for the 2013 year as well as elect a board of directors for the next year.
The four directors chosen were Rick Corners for the northwest quadrant of Jefferson County, Jeff Meyers for the northeast quadrant, Jeff Kieselewski for the southwest quadrant and Jim Morgan for the southeast quadrant. Sarah Allan was also elected the director at large, which is a one year term.
Farm Bureau Manager Chris Bunting said the board of directors elected during the evening will serve for the next two years. Members for each of the four quadrants of Jefferson County chose who their director would be, and those in attendance then voted on the decision.
“It’s kind of a yearly review for what’s going on with the Farm Bureau,” Bunting said.
Special awards were also handed out during the meeting to representatives from the state who have worked with the Farm Bureau to pass legislation in Springfield.
State representative John Cavaletto was awarded the Friend of Ag award, which was also given to Senator John O. Jones, who will be retiring in January.
“The farm bureau is a fantastic organization,” Jones said. “You are a big influence in Springfield. It’s truly an honor to represent you.”
Cavaletto also expressed his appreciation of working with the Jefferson Farm Bureau. He will not be representing Jefferson County because of redistricting.
Other orders of business discussed were the reading and approval of minutes from the 2011 meeting and 2012 finances, which were also approved.
