For the younger students – kindergarten through third grade – much of the tutoring consists of listening to the children read, Rohr said.
With the older students, the tutoring usually involves helping them with their homework.
“We do have children that need extra help and there is only so much time in the day,” Rohr said.
Eighth grader Taylor Storey will be one of the 10 new members inducted Thursday night. She said she looks forward to doing her part to help Opdyke students and the community.
“I want to be a better person,” Storey said. “I want to help others become better people.”
