---- — MT. VERNON — Local employers are invited to have breakfast at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in thanks for their support of area soldiers during the Breakfast With The Boss event on May 9.
“Dr. Michael Ayres with the Illinois National Guard contacted us and wanted to thank our business community,” said Brandon Bullard, executive director of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. “They wanted to host a breakfast at the Reserve Center to thank the businesses of the community for supporting and working with members of the Illinois National Guard.”
The breakfast is free to all business owners, managers and members of the business community, and sponsored by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and by the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. Catered by Bob Evans, the event will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. on May 9, with a program at 8 a.m. at the Armed Forces Reserve Center located on Shiloh Drive.
Guest speakers for the event include Bullard; Ayres, of the Illinois Committee, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; a National Guard/Reserve Unite presentation; and Military static displays.
According to SFC Justin Mix, Unit Readiness NCO of F Co., 634th BSB, those who attend may see weapons systems and individual soldier equipment set up on the drill floor, and if weather permits, two HMMWV’s will be set up in front of the building. Each of the three National Guard units at the facility will have a representative available to explain their mission and what soldiers do on drill weekends and during the two week annual training. Tours of the facility will be available after the breakfast is over.
“For those who have not been in the new armory, this is a great way to see the fantastic facility,” Bullard said. “The Illinois National Guard wants to touch base and make the connection with employers and business leaders in the community. They ask a lot of the business community and want to give back a little bit.”
Those attending are asked to RSVP by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 3, so a correct count on food may be obtained. Reservations may be made by contacting Michaela SCattone at 242-5725.
