MT. VERNON — District 80’s Board of Education accepted several resignations and hired three individuals for extra-curricular activities during an executive session on Monday.
Al Futransky, longtime Casey Jr. High School seventh grade Social Studies and Science teacher, tendered his resignation effective at the end of the 2016-2017 school year.
Four classified personnel announced their retirements effective at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. They are Marsha Schrum, Kathy Harvey, Mary Ann Morris and Beverly Mays.
“We’re going to up to 13 or 14 people who are retiring at the end of next school year,” said Superintendent Mike Green. We’ll have to replace an administrator, four teachers and nine classified personnel.”
Extra-curricular personnel hired by the Board include: Sara Wiggins, assistant dance coach at Casey Jr. High; Rachel Lowery, assistant Student Council sponsor at Casey; and Randall Knaak, Scholar Bowl sponsor at Casey. All of the assignments are for the 2013-2014 school year.
The Board also hired Janet Sinks as summer school fine arts teacher.
Green announced the school calendar for this school year has been amended. Since the District used only one emergency (snow) day, May 20 will be the final day of school. Students will pick up report cards on that day and dismiss early.
Green also announced eighth grade graduation will be held at 10 a.m. May 18 at Casey Jr. High School.
