Artists featured for show

MT. VERNON — The Cedarhurst Art and Craft Fair will be getting underway this weekend, featuring more than 100 artists, close to 1,000 volunteers and thousands of visitors.

In its 37th year, the Register-News has been working with Cedarhurst Center for the Arts since the beginning of the Art and Craft Fair to spotlight the artists who make the fair an attraction for visitors throughout the Midwest.

This year, the Register-News has produced a magazine highlighting the artists. The magazine will be available at Cedarhurst and in many newspapers.

The artists are the spotlight of the annual Art and Craft fair, with many returning to the juried competition year after year.

"Some take a break for a year or two, but then they are back," Said Sarah Sledge, Cedarhurst director of communications.

"When they arrive, we can't wait to see them," added Cedarhurst Executive Director Sharon Bradham. "It's like meeting family again."

The first opportunity for visitors to welcome the artists is during the preview party, which will take place Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is $10 with Cedarhurst members $8 in advance. Smokin' T's BBQ will provide concessions, a beer and wine tent will be set up and music will be provided by the Soulard Blues Band from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The art and craft fair will officially start at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The event will run Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $5 with children ages 10 and younger free.

A shuttle bus service will allow visitors to park at Times Square Mall and ride to the fair for $3 a round trip.
